The Region 5 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Ms. Meredith Norris has been named the new principal for Stone Middle School.

Ms. Norris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position having served as a dedicated educator for over 16 years in Fairfax County Public Schools.  Ms. Norris has served as the acting principal at Stone Middle School since October 1, 2020 following Dr. Mitchell’s promotion to the position of Executive Principal, Region 2. Prior to being named the acting principal at Stone Middle School, Ms. Norris served as an assistant principal at Westfield High School since June of 2014.  Previously, Ms. Norris served as the Special Education Department Chair at Chantilly High School.  Ms. Norris has also served as the principal for Fairfax County Public Schools Summer Learning Programs in three different schools over the span of four years.  In each of these roles, Ms. Norris’s leadership has had a tremendous impact on student success and engagement.

While serving as the acting principal at Stone Middle School, Ms. Norris has skillfully led the coordination of the return to school plan for students, staff, and families by overseeing staffing, instructional, technology, and finance needs during this unprecedented time in our division’s history.  Ms. Norris has worked closely with her administrative team to ensure there is a strong instructional focus in all classrooms at Stone MS, with an emphasis on the engagement model, equity, and Portrait of a Graduate skills.  In addition, Ms. Norris developed the “Portrait of a Panther” program, which recognizes ten students on a weekly basis for demonstrating Portrait of a Graduate attributes during our current distance learning instructional model.

Ms. Norris has proven to be a gifted administrator who is valued by her staff, supervisors, and colleague administrators.  She has a record of success in leading instruction that results in high academic achievement for all students. During her time at Westfield (the feeder high school for Stone MS), Ms. Norris supported the implementation of innovative practices that closed gaps in access, opportunity, and achievement, most notably amongst English Learners and Students with Disabilities.  She has a proven ability to create and sustain strong collaborative teams and develop leadership skills in the teachers and administrator colleagues she works with on a daily basis.  She is a highly effective communicator who exudes passion and a tireless dedication to doing what is best for students.

Ms. Norris is a leader who puts great focus on developing/strengthening relationships and promoting a sense of belonging, teamwork, and pride amongst students, families, teachers, and the community.  She is eager to deepen the relationships she has already begun to develop with all stakeholders in her new role.  In fact, Ms. Norris attended Stone MS as a student having grown up in the same community she now serves!

Ms. Norris holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Education in Special Education, and a Master of Education in Education Leadership from George Mason University.  She holds a Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in Administration and Supervision K-12, Specific Learning Disabilities K-12, and Emotional Disturbance K-12.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Meredith Norris as the new principal of Stone Middle School.
