anson yanCongratulations to History and Social Studies Teacher Anson Yan who was recognized as the FCPS 2021 Region 5 Outstanding Secondary New Teacher and one of the six finalists for the FCPS Outstanding Secondary New Teacher at this year's FCPS Honors event, held at Jiffy Lube Live on June 9th.

Anson begins every class by teaching the national days for that day and discussing with his students the importance of each, no matter how insignificant they might seem. He focuses his students’ learning more about the world than just what they read in history books and that the small things in life can make a big difference. Anson works to make his classroom inclusive and acknowledges the unique qualities each student brings to his class. He also leads an after-school hip hop dance program to teach students about self-expression and movement, along with hip hop culture and history. It is through these endeavors that Anson strives to create a community of inclusion and growth both in and outside of the classroom.
